Quenching Wellness: Unveiling the Health Benefits of Home Water Filtration

In our quest for a healthier lifestyle, it’s essential not to overlook the importance of the water we consume daily. Clean and safe water is the foundation of well-being, and in today’s world, where water quality is sometimes questionable, home water filtration systems emerge as crucial guardians of our health. This article explores the numerous health benefits associated with filtering water at home and delves into various methods you can employ to ensure that you and your families hydration source is as pure as possible.

Benefits of filtering your water

  1. Removal of Contaminants: One of the primary health benefits of home water filtration is the removal of potentially harmful contaminants. Tap water can contain impurities such as chlorine, lead, bacteria, PFAS and heavy metals. Filtration systems effectively sift through these contaminants, providing a safer and purer drinking experience.
  2. Improved Taste and Odor: Filtration not only removes harmful substances but also enhances the taste and odor of water. By eliminating chlorine and other chemicals, filtered water tends to be more palatable, encouraging people to consume an adequate amount of water daily.
  3. Protection Against Waterborne Diseases: In regions where waterborne diseases are a concern, home water filtration acts as a protective barrier. Filtration systems can trap and eliminate bacteria, viruses, and parasites, reducing the risk of waterborne illnesses and promoting a healthier community.
  4. Preservation of Essential Minerals: Unlike some water purification methods, filtration systems retain essential minerals like calcium and magnesium. These minerals are vital for various bodily functions, including bone health, muscle function, and nerve transmission. By preserving these minerals, home water filtration ensures that your water not only quenches your thirst but also contributes to your overall well-being.
  5. Reduction of Plastic Waste: Opting for home water filtration can also contribute to environmental well-being. By using reusable water bottles and filtering at home, individuals can significantly reduce their reliance on single-use plastic bottles, thereby minimizing plastic waste and its detrimental impact on the environment.

Methods of Home Water Filtration:

  1. Activated Carbon Filters: These filters use activated carbon to trap impurities and contaminants, including chlorine, pesticides, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
  2. Reverse Osmosis Systems: Employing a semi-permeable membrane, reverse osmosis systems effectively remove contaminants, ensuring a high level of purity in the filtered water.
  3. UV Water Purifiers: Ultraviolet (UV) purifiers use UV light to disinfect water by neutralizing bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms, providing an additional layer of protection.
  4. Ceramic Filters: Ceramic filters are porous and effectively remove bacteria, cysts, and sediments from water. They are often combined with other filtration methods for comprehensive purification.

Recommended Brands:

  1. Express Water Filters – You can get whole house systems, under sink systems, reverse osmosis systems and water dispensing systems.
  2. Epic Water Filters – What I love about Epic is they specifically talk about their filters removing PFAS (which are a huge concern right now and you can read more about that here). I also love that they sell filter water bottles which are great for taking with you camping, hiking, traveling… and they sell water filter pitchers (which is what my husband and I use in our household…we haven’t purchased bottled water in probably at least 10 years). You can also get countertop dispenser’s from Epic too.

Do you filter your water?

Stay healthy (and hydrated) my friends!

XO,

Carrie A Groff

PS. If you’re a coffee drinker like myself…using filtered water for brewing your coffee is so important for a delicious tasting cup of Joe. (same thing goes for tea).

Speaking of drinking coffee… Wandering Bear coffee has a special limited edition Cinnamon Cold Brew that just came out. I love drinking cold brew coffee more as it gets warmer. Wandering Bear cold brew coffee is extra strong, yet smooth. Each glass = 2 espresso shots. Stays fresh in your fridge for 30 days; shelf stable prior to opening
