Make Success Mandatory – Book Review

Make Success Mandatory Book Review from Healthy, Fit and Barefoot!

I was recently given the opportunity to read and review the book ‘Make Success Mandatory: Discovering Your Gift & Giving It Back To The World’ by Jeremy Scott. This is the first book I’ve read by Jeremy Scott and it’s one that I will definitely read again!

This book is a very positive book that goes through 22 exercises to help you develop a new mindset, look within yourself, get your juices flowing, and make a better life for you and everyone around you.

Jeremy starts off sharing his failures, which is always nice to hear, because sometimes we look at successful people and think “They’ve always been successful!”. But more cases, than not, that’s not true. Many successful people fail more times than they succeed.

Jeremy then asks you some simple questions to get your mind going….

“Are you living your life on your own terms?”

“Do you run your day or does your day run you?”

“Are you writing the story of your life, or are you living out someone else’s dream?”

“Are you giving the world your full potential each day?”

“Is there something more you could be doing with your precious time?”

These are all questions that we should stop and take the time to ask ourselves a few times a year. So many times we get stuck in a rut, where we are like a hamster on a wheel, and we just keep going through our daily routine without thinking about anything.

Life is way too short to be wasting our time doing things that don’t fulfill us and help us reach our goals.

One of the exercises Jeremy has you go through really resonated with me (well a lot of them did, but this one more than others) is the fact that Life is Hard but you have to Embrace it. A lot of people say “It’s too hard to …. (fill in an excuse)” and never go for their dreams because it’s too hard. Well, Jeremy is right and “Everything We Do Is Hard!” “Nothing worth having comes easy”

I have worked for quite a few different companies and bosses and it was hard to wake up and go to a job I hated. But like Jeremy did, I went out and changed my HARD. Now I work for myself, which isn’t always easy, but I love it and it’s leading me in the direction of my goals and dreams.

I also love that Jeremy encourages you to DREAM BIG! I have always been a “Dreamer” and I always will. Some people look at me like I’m crazy when I say I have a vision board that has a $7 million dollar beach house on it, but that’s ok, because that’s my vision and if a $7 million dollar beach house is a goal of mine then I will have something pulling me forward into the future to constantly be striving to reach that goal. Of course, I have smaller goals as well, like I had a picture of doing Crow Pose and it was challenging for me for a while, but I now do Crow Pose every where I go! Once I achieve a goal that’s on my vision board I remove it and put up another picture of a goal.

The last exercise is a 7 Day Mandatory Mindset Assessment. Jeremy gives you 5 steps to go through for the next 7 days that will have you taking massive action to help you create new exciting habits and rituals in your life. We can read all kinds of self-help and motivational books but if we don’t take action and do the steps to change our life then reading those aren’t going to help us at all.

I definitely recommend you check out Jeremy’s website: http://www.makesuccessmandatory.com/ and order a copy of his book. It’s one that I will always refer to so that I stay on track towards my goals and have a successful career and life.
