Are you looking to take better care of your body and home by embracing clean eating and non-toxic living? It can feel overwhelming at first, but with small, manageable steps, you can start making healthier choices that will have a lasting impact on your health and well-being.
Here are actionable tips to help you get started on this transformative journey:
1. Start with Whole Foods
The foundation of clean eating is focusing on whole, unprocessed foods. These are foods in their most natural form, like fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and whole grains. When grocery shopping, aim to fill your cart with items that have minimal ingredients—better yet, opt for foods that are the ingredients.
Action Step: Commit to replacing one processed snack with a whole food option each day. For example, swap out chips for a handful of almonds and a piece of fruit.
2. Read Ingredient Labels
You’ll be surprised by how many everyday foods contain chemicals, artificial additives, and preservatives. Clean eating means reducing exposure to these additives by being mindful of what’s in your food.
Action Step: The next time you go grocery shopping, take the time to read the ingredient lists of the items you buy. Look for simple, recognizable ingredients and avoid those with long lists of additives or artificial colors/flavors. One brand that I love that is consistently clean with no seed oils or sugars is Primal Kitchen. You can find many of their products in most grocery stores or you can shop on their website and save 10% with my code: CARRIEFIT
3. Choose Organic When Possible
Organic foods are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. While it may not always be possible to buy 100% organic, prioritizing organic produce from the “Dirty Dozen” (foods that tend to have the most pesticide residue) is a great place to start.
Action Step: Start by buying organic from the “Dirty Dozen” list like items like strawberries, spinach, and apples. Gradually add more organic foods into your shopping routine as your budget allows.
4. Eliminate Toxic Chemicals in Your Home
Living a non-toxic lifestyle isn’t just about what you eat—it’s also about reducing harmful chemicals in your living environment. Conventional cleaning products, air fresheners, and personal care items can expose you to chemicals that may disrupt hormones or cause irritation.
Action Step: Begin swapping out one cleaning or personal care product for a non-toxic alternative. Opt for natural cleaners like vinegar, baking soda, or plant-based formulas, and look for non-toxic beauty products with ingredients you can pronounce. If you don’t like to make your own cleaning products..one brand I absolutely love and use (it literally replaces ALL your cleaning products) is Force of Nature. You can even use it as a window cleaner. It disinfects, cleans, deodorizes and does windows! 3 of my favorite non-toxic beauty brands are: Oliveda, Primally Pure -discount code: CARRIEAGROFF & Beauty by Earth – discount code: CARRIEGROFF.
5. Hydrate with Clean Water
Water is essential for detoxifying the body and promoting overall health. But if you’re drinking water straight from the tap, you may be exposed to chlorine, heavy metals, and other contaminants. Invest in a good water filtration system to ensure you’re drinking the cleanest water possible.
Action Step: Invest in a water filter for your home, or start with a reusable water bottle that has a built-in filtration system. This way, you can stay hydrated while reducing plastic waste. You can also get a pitcher filter to keep in your fridge if you don’t want to install a water filter.
6. Avoid Processed Sugars and Refined Oils
Processed sugars and refined oils can cause inflammation and other health issues over time. Reducing your intake of foods like sugary snacks, fried foods, and processed oils (like soybean or canola oil) can have a major impact on your health.
Action Step: Start by replacing refined sugar with natural sweeteners like honey, maple syrup, or dates or alternative sweeteners that don’t raise your glucose like Stevia, Monkfruit or Allulose. When cooking, opt for healthier fats like olive oil, coconut oil, butter, tallow or avocado oil.

7. Meal Prep or Batch Cook for Success
Clean eating is easier to maintain when you have healthy meals and snacks readily available. Meal prepping and Batch cooking allows you to stay on track, avoid unhealthy choices, and save time throughout the week.
Action Step: Dedicate one day each week to prepare simple, clean meals in advance. Pre-chop vegetables, cook grains, and have protein sources ready to go for quick, healthy meals. If you don’t know the difference between the two…check out my informative blog post. Meal Prep Vs Batch Cooking
8. Be Mindful of Packaging
Even when eating clean, the packaging your food comes in can expose you to harmful chemicals like BPA and phthalates. Opt for fresh, unpackaged foods whenever possible, or choose items in glass or paper packaging.
Action Step: Replace plastic containers and wraps with glass or stainless steel for food storage. Bring reusable bags and produce bags to the grocery store to reduce plastic waste.
9. Connect with a Supportive Community
Change is easier when you’re not doing it alone! Surround yourself with like-minded people who support your journey toward clean eating and non-toxic living. This could be online groups, friends, or wellness communities.
Action Step: Join a local or online clean eating or non-toxic living group for support, recipes, and encouragement. Share your progress and challenges, and stay motivated with the help of others on the same journey. Join our free FB Community for more inspiration!
