Essential oils are organic compounds extracted from plants with tremendous healing properties. Using essential oils for healing purposes is often called aromatherapy which is a holistic treatment seeking to improve physical, mental and emotional health. Essential oils are extracted directly from the bark, flower, fruit, leaf, seed or root of a plant or tree and just one drop can have powerful health benefits.

For over 5,000 years, many different cultures have used these healing plant oils for a variety of health conditions. They are often used for relaxation, beauty care, home cleaning and most often used as natural medicine.

No where in my research have I read that putting lemon in your water is better for you than the actual real lemon juice.

This is what so many people (especially MLM distributors who weren’t properly educated) are blindly recommending to everyone they know, without knowing the facts. These MLM companies are suggesting that essential oils be put into water or veggie capsules and swallowed! Seriously, this is scary stuff and I wouldn’t be surprised to see lawsuits being filed. I am in no way bashing these companies or it’s distributors, just stating that what you don’t know and then share with others can hurt you. There are some distributors that do know better and don’t advocate ingesting essential oils, but there are too many out there that don’t realize how dangerous it is.

Essential oils are 100 times more concentrated than dried herbs.

For instance, in order to get 1 single 15ml bottle of rose essential oils it take 65 pounds of rose petals!

 To get a 200 ml of Thyme essential oil, it takes 2,200 lbs of plant material.

We all know that oil and water do not mix, so when putting essential oils in your water, it will come in direct contact with your mouth, esophagus, and other parts of your insides at full concentration. This can cause immediate burning, redness, or irritation. Long-term use of essential oils consumed this way can cause permanent damage to your esophagus, increase your risk of developing ulcers, or even cause kidney and liver distress or failure.

The only time it’s ever recommended to ingest essential oils is under the care of an aromatherapist or holistic doctor and even then, it’s only to get rid of such things as parasites, worms or to use as a natural antibiotic and they are only used for very short periods of time.

I’m not writing this post to scare you away from using essential oils, because they do have tremendous health benefits, just please do not fall into the fad of drinking them or ingesting them in any way.
