Everyone is talking about protein, protein & more protein these days. Why is protein such an important topic right now and how much protein should you really be eating every day?
Protein is needed to maintain and repair all body tissues, including muscle. It is also needed for the formation of hormones. If you are working out on a regular basis, it’s really important to build lean muscle. The more muscle mass we have, the more calories we burn at rest. Plus, the more muscle we have, the better we look in our summer shorts and swim suits! 🙂 #SummerStrong
Protein is found in various foods like animal flesh, organ meats, eggs, dairy, nuts, legumes, seeds, and various grains. There are also some superfoods like Goji berries that are a complete protein because they are packed with all the essential amino acids.

It’s recommended that 10-35% of our diet should come from protein. If you are an athlete and work out more than the average person you will be on the higher end of the scale.
I recommend to all my clients that they eat 20-25 grams of protein at each meal.
An easy way to get protein into your diet is by adding it to a smoothie. You can use whey protein or plant-based protein. I prefer plant-based protein because whey protein tends to make me feel bloated. Smoothie’s can be made in so many different flavors and you can get really creative with them so you never get bored! Summer time is the perfect time for smoothie’s too since they are a great way to cool down on a hot day. They are also a convenient way to get in lots of nutrition in one meal & that you can take with you while you are out running errands, taking kids back and forth to summer sports, and even great to take with you to the beach so you can stay #SummerStrong.
One of my favorite plant-based protein powders is from Bob’s Red Mill.
“Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods produces more than 400 products, including a full line of certified gluten free products and an extensive line of certified organic products. With a wide variety of whole-grain products, from flours and hot cereals to baking mixes and grains, Bob’s Red Mill has whole-grain foods for every meal of the day.Âť An employee-owned company, Bob’s Red Mill is the nation’s leader in stone milling and is dedicated to producing natural foods in the natural way. They stone grind all common and many uncommon grains into flours and meals on over one-hundred-year-old mills. With all of the sophisticated knowledge of recent times, no machinery has yet been developed that grinds grains into flour as well as these slow-turning, flint-hard quartz millstones of the kind used by millers since ancient times.”
Bob’s Red Mill Protein comes in 4 flavors: Chai, Chocolate, Vanilla & Original.
The Chai is my absolute favorite flavor!

The Chocolate with peanut butter is another favorite smoothie combo I love too!
The Original has no flavor at all which is great when you want to add it to a dish without adding any flavor.

I did most of these that I was able. Chai sounds delicious. Chai is my favorite tea, so I imagine it is awesome in a protein shake. https://www.facebook.com/juli.brooks.1
