Natural Deodorant’s – Do They Work?

Happy Friday my friends! So, I’ve been searching for a long time for a natural deodorant that works for me. I’ve been through so many different ones and I think (fingers crossed) that I finally found one that works! I’m not looking for one that has antiperspirant in it, because I want to sweat (well..OK…I don’t really want to sweat…but it’s natural and I don’t want to prevent my body from doing something that’s natural), so any that say antiperspirant on them I avoid.

So, why don’t I just settle for a deodorant like Dove, or Mitchum’s, or Secret? Well, because they have toxins in them and I sweat and eat healthy to get rid of toxins from my body so I don’t want to put something on my body that just puts them right back in. I’m all about preventative health, and if using a natural deodorant protects my body from illness and disease then I’m gonna use it.

According to Organics.org there are 7 dangerous ingredients lurking in common deodorants that have been linked to breast cancer and other dangerous diseases:

1. Parabens
2. Aluminum compounds
3. Silica
4. Triclosan
5. Talk
6. Propylene Glycol
7. Steareth-N

And of course, pretty much ALL of them have Fragrance in them. Check out Skin Deep for more info on dangerous ingredients and check to see if your deodorant is on the list.

Ok, so here are some of the deodorants I have tried so far (note: just because these didn’t work for me, doesn’t mean they won’t work for you):

EO Organic Deodorant – This one is one of the worst deodorants I have tried recently.
I bought the Vetiver scent and can’t stand it, and it just doesn’t work at all for me.

Vermont Soap Organic Deodorant –
I love the smell of
Lemongrass, but I really didn’t like it for my arm pits. I love Vermont Soap products (their organic soaps are amazing) but this deodorant just didn’t work for me. They have other scents, so I might try a different scent next time.

Herban Cowboy Deodorant – I got the Blossom Maximum Protection deodorant at a local store, thinking that because it’s Maximum Protection that I finally found the right natural deodorant…boy was I wrong! This one smells good buy just does not last for me. I have heard that some women had success with the Men’s version of this.

Skin2Spirit Sea Spray – I really wanted this deodorant to work. It is a magnesium deodorant that smells like coconut (my favorite scent!), but every time I use it I break out in a horrible rash. I used it once at night before bed and I didn’t smell after my morning sweat session and I was so excited, but I can’t use it daily because of the rash. If I use it once every now and then I get a few little red bumps, but if I use it twice in a row…I can’t even barely stand it. I don’t know what it is with this deodorant that makes me break out, but I’m so sad because I really do like this one. You can use it on your feet to help you sleep too since it has magnesium in it. It’s also great for anxiety & migraines.

Primal Life Organics Black Sensitive Deodorant – I’m still up in the air with this deodorant…it has activated charcoal in it which I love and it smells really good.
The weird thing is that it’s black, but I never had an issue with getting black on my clothes. The only thing I have an issue with is it seems to clump up a bit in my arm pit so then it looks like I have black mold growing in my pits LOL (totally not cool if I’m showing a client how to do a shoulder press). So, I don’t know if I used too much and that’s why it clumped up or why it did it. I do have to use this one multiple times a day, but I will keep it around for a bit yet.  I bought the mini one to try, but saw they do have other options as well.

Lavanila Sport Luxe Deodorant – This one by far is my favorite deodorant! I just picked this up in Sephora the other day as I waiting in line to check out (Yep! They sucker me in with those little product displays). This deodorant smells amazing, doesn’t leave any residue on my clothes and no clumping AND it seems to last for me! I’ve only been testing it out for 3 days now, but it seems to be working 🙂 Score! I got the travel size, so if I decide to continue using it I will need to get the larger size.

I’ve also tried Nourish Organic deodorant, Moody Sisters Cream Deodorant and Primal Pit Paste deodorant before with no such luck. There may be others as well that I don’t remember any more 🙂 It’s been a long journey, but I think and am hoping that Lavanila Sport Luxe is the ONE!
