Happy Friday my friends! Himalayan Salt is all the rage these days and it’s no wonder why. I’ve been using Himalayan Pink Salt for cooking for quite a few years now (I honestly don’t remember the last time I used regular table salt). Many commercial table salts undergo a bleaching process and contain aluminum derivatives and other terrible ingredients known to be highly toxic to human health.
Himalayan pink salt is an extremely pure, hand-mined salt that comes from ancient sea salt deposits in the Punjab region of Pakistan. It’s believed to be the purest form of salt available. As a pink salt, Himalayan salt is rich in iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium and copper. All these nutrients are actually what give Himalayan salt its pretty pink color. (source)
When ingested, real Himalayan salt is said to:
- Make drinking water alkaline water
- Provide essential minerals and trace minerals (Pink Himalayan sea salt contains over 84 minerals and trace elements, including calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper and iron, so it does more than just make your food taste better.)
- Balance the body’s pH (Since pink Himalayan salt contains sodium as well as other electrolytes, I use it in my homemade electrolyte drink)
- Normalize metabolic functions
- Be readily absorbed by your body’s cells
- Increases energy flow and circulation
Himalayan Salt for Indoor Air Quality
Himalayan Salt lamps have been popping up in stores everywhere lately because more and more people are learning about the health benefits of having them in their homes. Himalayan salt lamps are said to cleanse the air in your home by trapping indoor air pollutants, bacteria, mold and viruses and then releases negative ions back into the air. I currently have 1 lamp in my living room and 1 in my bedroom. On average, to effectively cleanse the air of a space, you need one pound of salt rock for every 16 square feet (four feet by four feet) area. If needed, you can always use multiple salt lamps spread out in a single room.
Just looking at the beautiful glow of a salt lamp can have a calming effect which is also very therapeutic. Note: If you need your bedroom completely dark to sleep at night, you will want to turn your salt lamp off or have it in a place in your bedroom where you can’t see it when laying in bed. The pinkish/orange glow of the lamp does not effect your sleep cycle.
Himalayan Salt for Detoxification
Himalayan salt is also great for detoxifying your body. Using Himalayan Salt Blocks for your feet helps draw out toxins and impurities from the body. The salt is antimicrobial, antiseptic, hypoallergenic, and ionic. Himalayan Salt Blocks will not only detoxify your body, they will also soften the skin and their warmth helps relieve stress and promote relaxation after a long day. It has also been said to help with edema. You can use these either hot or cold, and if you have a sauna you can sit in the sauna with these directly under both your feet to boost the effects of your sauna treatment.
I have used Himalayan Salt Blocks in my friends Infrared Suana and boy did my feet sweat! lol
I was recently introduced to a company called UncommonGoods, which is a company that offers handmade, recycled, & organic products from artisans and small manufactures and believes in sustainability and environmentally friendly practices. You can learn more about them here.
UncommonGoods sent me these Himalayan Salt Blocks to review which I was very excited about and agreed to promote because I love supporting companies that promote other small businesses and give back to the community. They also have great personalized gift ideas, gifts for men (Father’s Day is coming up!) & gifts for birthdays.
Benefits:
Why heat them? It is suggested that heating them causes the feet to sweat allowing the salt to pull impurities out, while depositing essential minerals to the skin. (Which is why they are perfect to use inside a sauna)
Instructions for use: Use either cool or warm.
To warm tiles, place them in a 300 degree oven for approximately 5 minutes. You may leave tiles in the oven for a few additional minutes if warmer tiles are desired. Use an oven mitt to remove tiles from oven. Place tiles on a towel on the floor, and gently rest feet on them for 15 to 20 minutes.

So, after heating my salt blocks, I placed them on a towel and then waited just a few minutes before I could keep my feet on the blocks constantly for 20 minutes. I tried doing it immediately after I took them out of the oven, but they were just a bit too hot for my feet. Once I let them cool just a bit they were just the right temperature to make my feet sweat, pulling out any toxins and replacing them with minerals. (My feet did not sweat as much as I thought they would)
Other benefits:
The warm Himalayan salt also helps ease tiredness, aching, and symptoms of stress caused by over-exertion. And, the Himalayan Salt Foot Blocks re-attunes the body to the Schumann resonance, sometimes called the heart beat of Mother Earth, which helps ease nervousness, insomnia and lack of concentration while helping to help reduce free radicals from the body.
