#TuesdayTip – Natural Lemon Fruit & Vegetable Wash

Lemon Essential Oil for Natural Produce Wash | Healthy, Fit & Barefoot!

I don’t know about you, but I always wash my fruit and vegetables before eating them. Between the people that have handled them, pesticides (if you don’t buy organic and even if you do there are organic pesticides), and anything else yucky that comes into contact with my produce from picking, packing, shipping and purchasing; who knows what has gotten onto it. And even when I buy organic apples (because apples are one of the worst offenders for being sprayed with pesticides) they still seem to have a wax on them. Gross! Who wants to eat wax?!

This super simple produce wash gets rid of all those nasty things that have come into contact with your produce and helps them last longer.

Simply take a bowl or sink full of filtered water and add 3-4 drops of lemon essential oil to the water. Mix it all around, then add in your produce and mix it around again to make sure the produce gets mixed with the lemon essential oil. Let it sit in this mixture for a few minutes. Rinse and let air dry then put away. I try and let my berries sit out and dry the longest to prevent them from getting moldy, then I put them in a glass container and put a dry paper towel on top and put the lid on. Then when I store it in the fridge, I store it upside down, so that any moisture that is left on the fruit will drip down onto the paper towel and when I open it the next time I get rid of the damp/wet paper towel and replace it with a dry one and store once again, upside down in the fridge. (My grandma actually taught me that little trick!)

Stay Healthy my Friends!
