I’ve had a few clients recently ask for some recommended electrolyte options, so I thought I would put together a list for everyone. Electrolytes are important in not just replenishing what we lose when we sweat but are also important for proper body function. These are even more important if you follow a low-carbohydrate diet, and in my opinion, I think everyone could benefit from drinking at least 1 every day to maintain optimal health and hydration.
Electrolytes play a crucial role in the body’s overall function by regulating nerve and muscle function, hydrating the body, balancing blood acidity and pressure, and rebuilding damaged tissue. These electrically charged minerals, such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, are essential for maintaining proper fluid balance and are particularly important for athletes, individuals with active lifestyles, or those in hot climates. Ensuring adequate electrolyte intake can help prevent dehydration, muscle cramps, and fatigue, making it vital for maintaining overall well-being.
I’m going to list some of my favorite electrolyte brands below, why I like them and how much they cost. This way, you can determine what’s the most important factor for YOU when choosing which brand to purchase. The brands I like the best have more electrolytes in them, especially sodium, which for some may make the drinks taste salty. I personally like the salty taste, but if you don’t you can just add more water to them. We also need more sodium in our diets, NOT LESS, like most people think. “A growing body of research reveals that optimal health outcomes occur at sodium levels 2-3x government recommendations.” I also pick brands that only use Stevia, Allulose or Monk Fruit as a sweetener. These don’t spike your blood glucose levels like sugar or other sweeteners would. I also try to avoid ones with magnesium citrate, which can have a laxative effect for some people. Note* – Allulose is emerging as a really great natural sweetener but start slow with this one, as some people do have some digestive issues if they consume too much. My husband has digestive issues, but takes the Sugar Free Liquid IV electrolyte that is sweetened with Allulose but has no GI side effects from the amount contained in it.
The first 5 electrolytes I have personally tasted and or used or currently use.
- Hydrated – This electrolyte from Make Wellness has quickly become my favorite because it combines an optimal blend of electrolytes, including SolarSea Sport, which is derived from the Great Salt Lake. It also contains Glycine, which enhances the absorption of water and electrolytes across cell membranes, helping you stay hydrated more efficiently. Plus, it features Coconut Water Powder, which is naturally isotonic and mimics the electrolyte balance of human blood and plasma, promoting rapid hydration. What sets it apart even further is the use of Stevia Reb M instead of Reb A. While Reb A isn’t harmful, Reb M is known to provide a cleaner, smoother taste, making it a more pleasant option. HYDRATED comes in a refreshing grapefruit flavor, and it’s priced at $49.99 for a 30-day supply with convenient stick packs for on-the-go hydration. You can save 10%, bringing it down to $44.99, and by your 4th month, you’ll enjoy 20% ongoing savings. The added ingredients, like Glycine and coconut water powder, elevate HYDRATED beyond other electrolytes, like LMNT, which was previously my top recommendation. My husband has also started using this one, and we’re both loving it.
- LMNT – I’ve used this brand of electrolytes for a few years and love it because it contains higher doses of sodium (1,000 mg) (which is great if you follow a low carb/keto/carnivore diet or are a high performing athlete), potassium (200 mg) and magnesium (60mg). These also taste delicious! If you buy the sweetened version (which aren’t super sweet) they are sweetened with Stevia which is a healthier option than sugar or other sugar substitutes. I purchase directly from LMNT and buy their Insider Bundle which is basically buy 3 boxes get 1 free. I have it on subscription which makes it more cost effective. They even have a delicious chocolate drink which makes for a healthy hot chocolate alternative. The bundle is $117 which makes each box of 30 packets only $29.25. You can also find these on Amazon although they are more expensive. You can get a free sample pack with your first order when you purchase through my refer-a-friend link. They also have an amazing new sparkling electrolyte drink in a can now too!
- Redmond Re-lyte – This is one of my other top recommended brands of electrolytes because it contains more electrolytes: Sodium 810mg Potassium 400mg Chloride 1280mg Calcium 60mg Magnesium 50mg Coconut Water Powder 80mg. The flavors also taste great! The sweetener used is Stevia leaf extract. They also use Redmond’s Real Salt (which is the only salt brand I use) which contains 60+ trace minerals as well. This one costs $39.59 on Amazon.
- Liquid I.V. Hydration Sugar-Free – The sugar-free version of Liquid I.V. is the only one I can recommend and I can recommend it as one of my top recommendations because they use Allulose in it to sweeten it (it also has some stevia in). Allulose does not spike your insulin or glucose and it seems to have less of an aftertaste than Stevia or Monk Fruit. My husband is quite picky and he loves this electrolyte. I also like that it has 510 grams of sodium and 380 mg of potassium. I do wish it had magnesium in it, but it doesn’t. You can get magnesium in a pill form though if you want. These are $23.36 for 14 servings on Amazon. The white peach flavor is yummy.
- Morning Routine – This one tastes just like lemonade! It combines organic lemon, organic apple cider vinegar, himalayan sea salt, and electrolytes. It has 50mg calcium, 50mg magnesium, 210mg sodium, and 200mg potassium. You can get this in 30, 10 or 5 stick packs.
- Myoxcience – I have not tried this brand yet. I like that it has Taurine and Creatine added to it. It has 310 mg REAL SALT, 452 mg Potassium, 170 mg of Magnesium (dimagnesium malate), 150 mg Calcium (chloride) 1112 mg Creatine, & 500 mg Taurine. It’s sweetened with monk fruit. Creatine and taurine both support healthy hydration, muscle health and longevity. It’s shown that when athletes add in creatine with their electrolytes they get in a better workout. These cost $38.95 on amazon. (creatine can make some people feel bloated…just a side note)
- Sports Research – Their Hydrate Electrolytes have some pretty great ingredients, although I haven’t tasted these yet. I love that they are sweetened with stevia. Each serving contains six total electrolytes (400 mg sodium, 200 mg potassium, 40 mg magnesium, 44 mg calcium, 337 mg chloride, and 9 mg phosphorous) and is enhanced with over 65 trace minerals, seven essential vitamins, and coconut fruit water powder. These are $22.95 for 16 packets on Amazon. So you would need to buy 2 boxes for a 30 day supply making these a little more expensive at $44.90 for 2 boxes.
- Moon Juice – I’ve never tried this brand, but it seems to have a lot of great reviews and I the ingredients are pretty good. It has 30 mg Calcium (as Calcium Bisglycinate), 65 mg Magnesium (as Magnesium Gluconate), 415 mg Chloride (as Himalayan Pink Salt), 270 mg Sodium (as Himalayan Pink Salt), 130 mg Potassium (as Potassium Citrate), as well as trace minerals and some other ingredients. It’s sweetened with stevia leaf extract. It’s a little more expensive at $44, but subscribe and save is $39.60 on Amazon.
- Bare Performance Nutrition – I also have not tried this brand. I do like the ingredients in this one. It has 500mg of Sodium per serving from Pink Himalayan Salt & Trisodium Citrate†, 170 mg Potassium (Potassium Glycinate Complex), 20 mg Magnesium (Magnesium Bisglycinate Chelate) (a little low on this one), 480 mg of chloride, 100 mg Calcium (Calcium Bisglycinate Chelate). It’s sweetened with stevia leaf extract. This one is $44.99 but comes in a 50 serving container. Subscribe and save brings it down to $40.49 on Amazon.
- Keto Chow Electrolyte Drops – If you prefer unflavored electrolyte drops then this is the brand I highly recommend. (I tried their new flavored electrolytes and man I couldn’t get it down…just did not like the taste, but you may like them). These drops were formulated with Dr. Berry. Each 1/2 teaspoon serving has 125 mg Sodium, 130 mg Potassium, 45 mg Magnesium, 390 mg Chloride. You can find these on Amazon or if you want to try these and get 10% off you can shop through my affiliate link. (10% discount automatically applied) I recently received their KetoChow shakes to try and they are better than I anticipated.
- Trace Minerals Zero Lyte – I used to love Trace Minerals until I looked at their ingredients and realized how much sugar was in them, but they now came out with a zero sugar electrolyte with similar mineral amounts to LMNT. It’s also sweetened with Stevia now instead of cane sugar or Sucralose. I have not tried this one so can’t attest to the taste.
- FlavCity Electrolytes – I have never tried these. They personally have to little amount of sodium in them for me and I’m not a huge fan of fruit powders, but I like that the fruit powders is how he gets the flavoring in these. The sodium is only 85 mg and comes from unrefined sea salt, Potassium from 253 to 305 mg depending on the flavor, Magnesium is 104 mg, and chloride is 136 mg. These are sweetened with Stevia. You can get these for $44.99 on Amazon which is only $1.60 a pack. With such low sodium though you may need to drink more than one a day depending on your activity level, diet and age.
