Collagen – What does it do and who should use it? Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides Review

Collagen has been a supplement word I’ve been hearing a lot about lately. I’ve never taken it nor did I really know what it’s good for until I received a sample in my December Bulu Box. If you don’t know what Bulu Box is, it’s the best way to discover the health, nutrition, and weight loss products that are right for you. It’s a subscription service that sends you 4-5 samples based on your profile before buying full sized products so you know what products are right for you and you don’t waste money on a product that’s not right for you.

The sample I received in my Bulu Box is from a company called Vital Proteins.

It’s pasture-raised collagen peptides. They call it an “All natural Anti-Aging drink powder dietary supplement”. “Vital Proteins’ Collagen Supplement is sourced from pasture raised bovine hides from Brazil to ensure a natural, high quality, and sustainable source of this ancient nutritional powerhouse. What a cow eats profoundly affects the animal’s health, and the nutritional quality of its milk, meat, and hide. Our cattle graze solely on lush grasslands in Brazil and are not given hormones, steroids, or antibiotics. They eat their natural diet – grass, and receive plenty of open space and sunshine. We believe in providing our animals with an environment that nature intended, and the result is a high quality protein that is natural and pure.”

What is collagen good for?

*Joint Health – Collage has the same amino acids found in bone broth, which is one of the top healing foods. If you don’t drink bone broth though, you need to use a supplement.
*Improves Digestion & Heals Leaky Gut – #1 supplement for digestive function.
*Tones & Tightens your Skin – As we age our body produces less collagen so we start to get saggy and wrinkly skin. Adding collagen to your diet will improve the tone and texture of your skin. It may even help with your cellulite.
*Supports a Healthy Metabolism – Collagen has 7 grams of protein in each tbsp. Increasing protein in our diet helps reduce cravings, supports your metabolism and lean muscle tissue.

Collagen is a great way to add protein to your diet and since it’s dairy free, gluten free and easily digestible you can use it in place of protein powders.

It’s recommended that you take 2 tbsp a day. You can do 1 tbsp in your morning smoothie and one later in the day in your afternoon tea. It dissolves easily and doesn’t have a taste.

I used 1 tbsp twice today in my daily hot tea. I’m not sure if I will see any results from using the sample bottle I received from Bulu Box but I will definitely be purchasing more and adding this to my daily supplement regime.

When you are looking to purchase collagen you want to make sure you purchase one that is from grass-fed cows, has no hormones or chemicals and no added fillers. Vital Proteins is a fantastic brand as well as Axe Naturals Collagen Proteins by Dr. Axe, and Great Lakes Collagen.

Have you tried collagen or bone broth? I would love to hear if you have!
